Though these alloys have great characteristics and benefits, there are some drawbacks to using Monel alloys:

•The attractive surface discoloration, though might be attractive, can be problematic for other uses.
•It has low pitting corrosion resistance, especially caused due to seawater.
•Specific acids such as nitric oxide, nitrous acid, sulfur dioxide, and hypochlorites can corrode the alloy. It is not used in applications where the alloy can be exposed to these acids in the environment.
